Southington Scouts Need Help To Feed The Community

Southington Scouts this weekend will be collecting food donations throughout town as part of its 'Scouting for Food' event.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local scouts will be out in full force collecting food for the Southington community this Saturday, Nov. 8.

Called "Scouting for Food," the initiative is in response to many Southington residents struggling to pay for food in light of federal SNAP benefits no longer being fully funded.

Because of the federal government shutdown, SNAP benefits ran out Nov. 1 nationwide, with some states helping to fill the gap, albeit at lesser levels.

To help, both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts in Southington have given folks bags on residents' front doors, with people asked to fill them up with food and leave them out on Saturday morning, Nov. 8.

From there, scouts will pick up the food to give to those in need.

In addition, those looking to help can drop off non-perishable food at the Southington Drive-In Pavilion, 995 Meriden Waterbury Turnpike, from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 8.

Proceeds will benefit Southington-based Bread for Life, a local nonprofit dedicated to combating food insecurity in Southington.
