SOUTHINGTON, CT — A recent program at the Calendar House Senior Center in Southington helped local seniors learn how a good diet can do more than just promote good physical health.

On Monday, Aug. 11, Farmington Station Senior Living out of Farmington presented “Boost Your Brain Health by Eating Well” at the Calendar House in Southington.

The Farmington Station team educated attendees about the effects a healthy diet has on cognitive function and how it potentially slows the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.

“Boost Your Brain Health by Eating Well” is an educational program that allows others to learn about easy nutrition guidelines and recipes that can lead to a healthier mind and body, according to Farmington Station.

"Farmington Station aims to spread knowledge about how a few simple lifestyle changes can reduce someone’s risk of several chronic diseases and even stave off memory loss," wrote Farmington Station in a release.

Farmington Station offers an award-winning dining program, aptly named “Brain Healthy Cooking”, which brings Mediterranean Diet-inspired menu options to residents at the assisted living and memory support community.

Dishes feature brain-boosting ingredients like dark berry fruits, leafy green vegetables, whole grains, herbs, spices, and fresh fish.

The public is invited to sample these recipes at www.BrainHealthyCooking.com.

Farmington Station, located on Scott Swamp Road in Farmington, offers local seniors assisted living and a state-of-the-art "Compass Memory Support Neighborhood."
