Sunday Storms Slam Southington
Monday was a day of recovery for Southington, as roads were closed, trees were taken down and some lost power amid Sunday's stormy day.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Even by summer in New England standards, Sunday's weather featuring thunderstorms, tornado warnings, and heavy rain was anxiety-inducing.
But among the towns slammed by Sunday's storms, Southington was among the most hard-hit.
Monday, folks and town personnel were tending to a wide swath of damage in town, with several local roads initially closed Sunday and, slowly, reopening by the morning.

"Many areas are also without power," wrote the SPD Sunday. "Stay safe while emergency crews attempt to fix these issues."
As is always the case, folks were urged to stay away from downed utility lines and to assume they are live.
The Southington Fire Department Sunday evening said they were responding to "numerous storm-related emergencies" and tolk people to "stay away from downed" wires.
In subsequent updates, police said the following roadways were closed for a bit of time due to the storm:
• Oakland Road between Meriden Avenue and Highwood due to a tree taking out utility lines.
• Old Turnpike near "Chuck & Eddie's" due a tree over the road and wires taken down.
• The intersection of Prospect and Church streets, at 125 Prospect St., was closed due to tree down at the intersection with wires.
• The intersection of Pondview Drive, Birchcrest Drive, and Hemlock Drive was closed due to a large tree down in the roadway with wires down.
Many Southington residents lost power, but by Monday morning, most of the town was restored.
