Surgeon Who Operated On Wrong Knee Fined, Reprimanded: Report

BRISTOL, CT — An orthopedic surgeon has been fined $5,000 and given a reprimand after he operated on a patient's wrong knee in 2018, the Connecticut Health Investigative Team reported.
During a surgery at Bristol Hospital on Sept. 14, 2018, Dr. Christopher Betz didn't independently verify which knee to perform the surgery on — and after realizing he had operated on the wrong one, he gave the patient a cortisone shot in the correct one, C-HIT said state documents show.
