Who Will Flip Southington's Holiday Light Switch?

The town is collecting entries to determine which local child aged 3-10 will be able to turn the green's holiday light display on Dec. 6.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — One of the biggest honors for a child in Southington is being able to flip the switch and light up the town's beloved green every holiday season.

This year, the Southington Recreation Department is already on the lookout for this year's lucky winner in its 12th Annual "Light Up The Green" Contest.

The holiday light display on the Southington Town Green will be officially turned on for the season on Friday, Dec. 6, at 5:30 p.m.

As it does annually, the recreation department is inviting a resident child to flip the switch and light up the night.

Southington residents (which includes residents of Plantsville, Marion and Milldale) ages 3 to 10 are eligible to be entered online for a chance to be chosen as the official "switch flipper."

Immediate family members of the selected child are welcome to assist on the day of the event.

There is one entry per child and duplicate entries will be discarded.

Entries will only be accepted via submission of the online form (no phone calls, emails, or paper entries).

One winner will be selected from a random drawing of all eligible entries on Monday, Dec. 2, 2024 and will be notified by telephone.

The entry deadline is Sunday, Dec. 1.
