3 Families Displaced By Residential Fire In Stamford: Fire Officials

The Frederick Street fire was reported Wednesday night, according to authorities.

STAMFORD, CT — Three families have been temporarily displaced following an outdoor grill fire Thursday night at a multifamily home on Frederick Street in Stamford, according to fire officials.

The blaze was reported at about 7:45 p.m., and upon arrival, Stamford firefighters could see heavy smoke coming from the rear of the home.

Thirty-five firefighters were needed to extinguish the exterior fire, which had extended into the rear exterior wall. Additional hose lines were brought into the house to extinguish the remaining fire, according to officials.

"A search of the house confirmed all occupants had self-evacuated," wrote Stamford Deputy Fire Chief Eric Lorenz in a statement. "A dog was removed from the second floor by firefighters and was unhurt. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The fire was placed under control at 8:34 pm."

The American Red Cross is assisting the three families – ten adults and two children — find temporary lodging, due to extensive damage to the apartments inside the home.

Members of the Stamford Fire Marshal’s office are investigating the cause of the fire.
