Volunteers assembled 500 family emergency kits at AmeriCares headquarters this week as part of the emergency response and global health organization’s #GivingHealth on #GivingTuesday campaign.
The tote-bag kits contain essential personal care items for a family of four, including soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and towels. The kits are pre-positioned in AmeriCares Stamford warehouse for distribution to families across the United States displaced by tornadoes, hurricanes, flooding and other emergencies. AmeriCares responds to an average of 30 emergencies worldwide every year, establishes long-term recovery projects and brings disaster preparedness programs to vulnerable communities.

“Giving Tuesday is a great way to start the holiday season,” AmeriCares President and CEO Michael J. Nyenhuis said in a statement. “We see it as an opportunity to organize hands-on events, where supporters can roll up their sleeves and help us prepare for the next emergency.”
