Boston Celtics Honor Stamford Athletic Trainer For Saving A Life

The Boston Celtics honored Jordan Napolitano during a game on March 24 as part of the organization's "Heroes Among Us" program.

STAMFORD, CT — One of Stamford's own was honored by the Boston Celtics late last month for saving the life of a referee who collapsed during a basketball tournament in 2019.

Jordan Napolitano was recognized at center-court of TD Garden as a "Hero Among Us" by the Celtics on March 24 during the Celtics game against the Indiana Pacers.

Napolitano, the athletic trainer at Stamford High School, jumped into action during a basketball tournament in December 2019 at Stamford High School when one of the game referees collapsed.

Napolitano went over the scorer's table, instructed someone to call 911 and administered an AED and performed chest compressions as the referee slipped in and out of consciousness.

The referee was revived as EMS personnel arrived at the scene and took over care.

The Celtics established its "Heroes Among Us" program in 1997.

The initiative recognizes outstanding individuals who have made exceptional and lasting contributions to their communities. The award is presented at every Celtics home game, and honorees are recognized at half-court on the Celtics' legendary parquet floor.

According to the Celtics' website, more than 850 people have received the Heroes Among Us Award to date.
