Stamford Man Accused Of Stealing Credit Cards At Westport Country Club: Police
The suspect is accused of stealing the cards from an unlocked vehicle, according to authorities.

WESTPORT, CT — A 31-year-old Stamford man was arrested last week on a warrant in connection with the theft of credit cards from a wallet at Westport's Birchwood Country Club in 2023, according to Westport police.
Mohammed Islam, who was arrested on Dec. 17 at Stamford Superior Court where he was appearing on an unrelated case, was charged with the following:
- Larceny, Third Degree
- Larceny, Fourth Degree
- Payment Card Theft
- Payment of Less than $500 on a Revoked/Stolen Credit Card (5 Counts)
- Conspiracy to Commit Payment of Less than $500 on a Revoked/Stolen Card
- Identity Theft, Third Degree (12 Counts)
- Criminal Impersonation
The case stems from a July 2023 incident. The victim reported that "several items had been stolen from his wallet including multiple credit cards and identity documents/credentials." His wallet had been inside an unlocked vehicle in the parking lot of Birchwood Country Club on Kings Highway South.

"Multiple fraudulent credit card charges were subsequently made using the victim’s cards at various locations in the Danbury, Connecticut area," wrote Westport Police Lt. Anthony Prezioso in a statement. "Surveillance video of these transactions depicted two suspects. Through an extensive investigation that included information sharing with other law enforcement agencies, Mohammed Islam was identified as a suspect in this incident. An arrest warrant was sought and granted for Islam as well as a second suspect in connection with the investigation."
Though Islam was arrested last week, the second suspect remains at-large, according to police.

Islam remains in custody in lieu of bail of $50,000, and he is scheduled to appear again in Stamford Superior Court on Jan. 9.
