Coming to Stamford: Malloy to Discuss '2nd Chance Society' Law

The governor and Stamford state Rep. William Tong will discuss new law that eliminate mandated minimum sentences for certain offenses.

Governor Dannel Malloy and State Representative William Tong will speak at The Ferguson Library Monday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. about Connecticut’s new “Second Chance Society Law,” which eliminates mandatory minimum sentences for minor drug possession and expedites reentry into society for nonviolent offenders.

Malloy and Tong will discuss the evolution and significance of the new law, which was championed by the governor and passed by the legislature in June. It reclassifies drug offenses so fewer nonviolent offenders are jailed, streamlines parole hearings and expands post-prison employment programs to help individuals re-enter society.

The program will take place at the Main Library, DiMattia Building, One Public Library Plaza, Stamford, in the third floor auditorium. Please arrive by 6:45 p.m. to be seated.
