
A 23-year-old Stamford man was arrested Tuesday night when a pair of men restrained him until police arrived after he allegedly attempted to steal a scooter belonging to a Chinese food delivery driver.
According to police, Pedro Rodriguez, of Melrose Place, was caught red-handed trying to steal a scooter at approximately 9:30 p.m. by a witness who knew the rightful owner of the motor vehicle.
The witness, who spotted Rodriguez behind the Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant at 598 Cove Road trying to take the bike, alerted the owner and chased the fleeing Rodriguez on foot down the street, police said.
The pair caught up with Rodriguez, who allegedly became combative and attempted to fight the men. Police said upon arrival, the suspect was taken to Stamford Hospital and treated for injuries sustained during the altercation, then Released and charged.
Rodriguez was charged with third-degree assault, conspiracy to commit third-degree robbery and two counts second-degree breach of peace.
