Interim Assistant Principal Appointed At Stamford High School

The appointment takes effect Aug. 8, according to Stamford Public Schools.

STAMFORD, CT — Jonathan Ortiz has been appointed interim assistant principal at Stamford High School for the 2025–26 academic year, Superintendent Dr. Tamu Lucero announced Monday.

Ortiz, a former school counselor at Stamford High from 2016 to 2024, returns to the school in an administrative capacity after a year serving as the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) Specialist at Westhill High School. His appointment takes effect Aug. 8.

"We are very excited to bring Jonny back to Stamford High as the Interim Assistant Principal," said Dr. Lori Rhodes, associate superintendent for high schools, in an announcement. "Jonny has done a terrific job as a school counselor, summer school lead teacher, and MTSS. His knowledge, experience, and student-centered approach will be an excellent addition to the Stamford High administrative team led by Mr. Forker."

In addition to his prior work as a counselor, Ortiz held multiple leadership roles at Stamford High, including serving as boys soccer coach from 2016 to 2023, District 504 team leader, and Advanced Placement coordinator during the 2023–24 school year. Since 2023, he has also worked as a head teacher in the Stamford Public Schools Summer School Program.

In his new role, Ortiz will serve as grade nine administrator, overseeing the transition of more than 500 incoming students. He will also be responsible for the school’s RISE Program, counseling department, and Career Technical Education (CTE) program.

Ortiz is a graduate of Westhill High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Bridgeport, a master’s degree in bilingual school counseling from New York University, and a master’s in educational leadership from the American College of Education. He holds Connecticut certifications in school counseling (068) and intermediate administration or supervision (092).
