Large Indoor Roller Rink To Open In Stamford
Roller rinks usually evoke memories of the 1970s and 1980s, but the facility will have a 2025 feel thanks to modern lighting and music.
STAMFORD, CT — The transformation of the Stamford Town Center into a recreational and entertainment destination will continue this summer with the addition of Roller Land, an indoor skating rink that will be located on the mall's fifth level at 100 Greyrock Place.
Co-owner Tom Kwok told Patch this week he expects the facility to open next to Angel Land, the indoor children's playground he also operates, around July or August.
"We are definitely very excited to bring this to Stamford. A lot of people have come up to us expressing their interest and they're glad it's coming," Kwok said.

There are two other roller rinks in Connecticut in Waterbury and Vernon, but "those are old school-style," Kwok said.
Such facilities usually evoke memories of the 1970s and 1980s, but Kwok said Roller Land will have a 2025 feel thanks to modern lighting and music.

The concept has caught on in popularity in mainland China, according to Kwok, so he wanted to open up a rink here for the community.
The rink itself will be about 5,000 square feet, but Roller Land as a whole will be between 11,000 to 12,000 square feet. Kwok said there will be party rooms where guests can celebrate birthdays or special events.
Skates will be available to rent, and there will be snack bars offering up food and drinks.
The Stamford Town Center already features Pickleball America and will soon get a state-of-the-art indoor Padel court. Padel is a sport that blends elements of tennis and squash.

“We are thrilled to welcome Roller Land to Stamford Town Center this summer. This exciting entertainment destination will bring a fresh energy to our center while providing families and visitors with a unique recreational experience," Stamford Town Center General Manager Dan Stolzenbach told Patch.
"The community response has already been tremendously positive, with many residents expressing their excitement about having this nostalgic yet modern activity in the heart of Stamford," Stolzenbach added. "As we continue to evolve our tenant mix, Roller Land represents exactly the kind of distinctive, experience-based offering that today's consumers are seeking. We anticipate it will become a popular attraction that increases foot traffic throughout the center while creating lasting memories for our community."
Kwok is also planning two more separate ventures at the mall that could open this summer -- Paradise Spa and Fries Guys.
"Our idea is to make the mall more family oriented. What we have in mind is, parents can come, drop off their kids at the venue, and maybe the mom and go to the spa and take care of themselves," Kwok said.
Fries Guys is a franchise that's popular in China with more than 100 storefronts. The eatery features crunchy french fries with a variety of sauces and toppings. Kwok said it's expected to open in the mall's food court.
Hours for Roller Land are expected to match those for the mall - 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., but Kwok said the hours could be adjusted based on popularity. A website for Roller Land is currently being developed.
