STAMFORD, CT — A man was arrested last week after a lengthy standoff with Stamford police who were trying to execute a search warrant as part of an ongoing assault investigation, according to an announcement from the department.

On Aug. 8, officers went to execute a search and seizure warrant at an apartment on Woodside Green, police said.

"During the course of this action, police personnel were met with resistance from within the apartment," police added. "The Department Special Response Team (SRT) engaged in lengthy negotiations with the individual."

Police said the man "did not comply with instructions and forcibly interfered with the execution of the warrant."

The SRT team then "utilized measures to influence" the man's cooperation, and he was taken into custody after he exited the apartment and went down the fire escape, police noted.

The man was charged with interference with a search warrant - a misdemeanor - and was held on $5,000 bond. Police did not provide an age for the man, but the CT Judicial Branch website lists a birth year of 1971.

"Details regarding the underlying case will not be released as it remains an ongoing investigation," police said.
