Mayor Simmons Earns Endorsement From Stamford Democratic City Committee
Caroline Simmons, who became the first woman to be elected mayor in Stamford, is seeking a second term in office this November.

STAMFORD, CT — Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons this week earned endorsement from the Stamford Democratic City Committee for November's municipal election.
Simmons, who is seeking a second term in office, became the first woman to be elected mayor in the city in 2021 when she defeated Bobby Valentine, a Stamford native and former Major League Baseball manager who ran as an unaffiliated candidate.
Before becoming Stamford's chief elected official, Simmons served as a state representative in the 144th House District for several years.

"I’m honored to receive the Stamford Democratic City Committee’s endorsement for re-election as Mayor. I love this city and I am proud of the progress we have made over the past four years toward making Stamford a city where everyone can thrive," Simmons said in an emailed statement to Patch through a campaign spokesperson.
"Our successes have come from prioritizing investments in our schools, parks and roads, supporting economic growth and small businesses, and making our government more responsive to residents," Simmons added. "While much has been accomplished, I remain excited by the tremendous opportunities that lie ahead, focused on continuing to deliver results, and I am eager to engage voters across this city in a conversation about continuing to move Stamford forward."

Simmons will run against Republican challenger Nicola Tarzia, a former member of the Stamford Board of Education who earned endorsement from Stamford Republicans earlier this month.
"Nic brings decades of experience in both business and public service, including 10 years on the Board of Education and a successful career as CEO of a Stamford-based construction firm. He’s not just a leader, he’s a problem-solver with a vision rooted in fiscal responsibility, and putting Stamford residents first," Stamford Republicans posted on Facebook following his endorsement.
