*Meep, Meep* Coyote Season Comes to Stamford
If you see them, they won't be packing acme rockets. Even some of your pots and pans should be enough to scare them off.

Roadrunners beware! The Stamford Animal Care & Control Center said it's the season for coyotes to be on the prowl.
According to Officer Tilford Cobb, the animals are starting to appear, frequently and over a large portion of the city, as the winter comes to a close.
"We're seeing them in North Stamford, we're seeing them along the train tracks, we're seeing them all over," Cobb said. "If you see one, leave it alone. Let it be. It does not pose that much of a threat [to an adult]."

Cobb said to be cautious with small dogs and children, and once in a while, coyotes have been known to stalk small dogs. If one approaches you or your property, Cobb said you can scare them away with noise.
"Pots and pans usually work," he said. "Or you could use air-horns like they have on boats while you're walking your dog."

Cobb said young coyotes will be out and exploring right now, and usually, seeing one will be the only time you cross paths. He said repeated sightings could mean a den is nearby and that's probably an issue you want to treat as a special circumstance.
"If you see packs of them, and they're being protective of their young, it's time to be cautious," Cobb said. "If you do see them on your property every day, there' is probably a den somewhere. Don't leave your pets and children unattended for any period."
