In Memoriam: Floyd 'Sonny' Krom

The retired Stamford Police officer passed away Nov. 23 at the age of 76.

Floyd ‘Sonny’ Krom, age 76, husband of Arlene (Haug) Krom passed away on Monday, November 23, 2015 at Stamford Hospital.

Born in Ellenville, NY on December 26, 1938, son of the late Floyd and Doris Krom the eldest of 5 children.

He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Roy O. Hale as a radio man before joining the Stamford Police Dept. in 1968 He spent the next 34 years as a Police Officer, retiring in 2002 for 2 weeks before resuming work in the Records Division as a Police Aide until his death.

A PADI certified Instructor he was Captain of The Police SCUBA Team where he was instrumental in training the Stamford Fire Department in cold water ice rescue and recovery. A member of the Pistol Team, SWAT Team and Motorcycle Division, he was a dedicated employee, with high work ethic. The Records Division became his second family.

Known as a practical joker w/a quick wit, right Tom? He loved his daily newspaper run, crosswords, lottery tickets, Foxwoods and feeding his pet chipmunk.

Survived by wife Arlene, sons Dave, Jim, Ken (Cindy) daughter Tammie (Thomas), grandchildren Tiffany, Kailea, Christopher, Anthony and great grandson Tyler. Brothers Peter of WV and Paul of FL.

He was predeceased by Brother Robert Allen, sisters, Donna and Pat.

Calling hours will be held at the Lacerenza Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8 Schuyler Ave., Stamford on Sunday, November 29 from 2 to 6 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home at 4 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date.
