In Memoriam: James Skrepetis

James Skrepetis, 93, beloved husband, father and grandfather, peacefully passed away of natural causes at his home on the evening of Tuesday, January 5, 2016.

His loving family was at his side. Jimmy, as he was affectionately known, was born in Pardali (Sparta), Greece on March 15, 1922 and was the youngest of 13 children born to the late Themistoklis and Tasia (Perdikis)Skrepetis.

Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Tasia (Psichopaidas) Skrepetis; his daughters and sons-in-law, Rose and John Bakis and Jenny and Evangelos Diamantidis; his two precious granddaughters, Maria and Stacey Diamantidis, and his loving brothers and sisters-in-law. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by all 12 of his siblings.

Jimmy joined the Greek Army and served for 3 years during World War II. After his service in the army Jimmy met and married the love of his life, Tasia Psichopaidas. Jimmy and Tasia settled in Kastania, Greece, where he worked his trade as a tailor and where they had their two loving daughters Rose and Jenny.

The family immigrated to the United States in 1966, settling in Stamford. Jimmy was an expert tailor with almost 81 years in the trade. He would proudly say that he provided his expertise to 22 stores over the course of his career.

Jimmy enjoyed working in his garden and loved to grow vegetables and beautiful flowers. He was proud of his Greek heritage and he loved to dance and play Greek music on his bouzouki. He was the “perfect husband” who did all of the shopping at the supermarket and running of household errands into his early 90s. He was a devout member of Greek Church of Annunciation for over 49 years. Jimmy enjoyed taking videos and photos at family events and was just happy to see his family together and having fun. Most of all, Jimmy cherished the time he spent with his precious and much loved granddaughters.

He will be sadly missed by those who loved him and his trademark smile and kind heart will live on in their memory. Eternal be his memory.

The Skrepetis family will receive the condolences of family and friends on Sunday, January 10 from 4 pm to 8pm, with a Trisagion service beginning at 7 pm, at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Ave., in Stamford. A funeral service will be celebrated on Monday, January 11 at 10 am at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 1230 Newfield Ave., in Stamford. Father Evan Evangelidis will officiate. Interment will immediately follow at Fairfield Memorial Park, in Stamford.
