In Memoriam: John Stashenko Jr.

The Stamford resident passed away Nov. 7 at the age of 81.

John Stashenko Jr., 81, of Stamford, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Greenwich Hospital.

John was born in Stamford, on October 25, 1934 to John and Ana (Sowitcky) Stashenko Sr.

He married the love of his life, Faith (Egley) Stashenko 60 years ago on June 11, 1955.

He is survived by his wife Faith, their children John III and wife Iolanda, of Norwalk, CT, Faye Kay of Stamford, CT, Kim Taylor and husband John of Bridgeport, Jim and his wife Pat of Phelam, NY, his sister Doris Stashenko Randall of Shady Side, MD and brother Robert of St. Paul, MN. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Joseph Kay IV, and Luke Kay, Stefanie Bronner, Danielle Watkins, John Stashenko IV, Frank Stashenko, Amanda Stashenko, Zachary and Nadine Taylor, his great-grandchildren Jermaine, Ricki, Layla and Johnny V, and his niece Robin Spicer.

He was predeceased by his parents, a sister Anita Stashenko, his sister-in-law Judy Stashenko and a nephew Robert Stashenko.

He has owned and operated the family business, Elmcroft Tree Service. He graduated from Stamford High School and from the University of Massachusetts in 1954 with a degree in Horticulture and Arboriculture. He was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Holy Assumption Church in Stamford, CT where he was the Treasurer for many years and also helped buy the property the church is on today. He was a lifetime member of the International Arborists Association, CT Tree Protection Association, the Ponus Yacht Club, The Elks Club and frequented the VFW in Darien to visit with friends. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Turn of River Fire Department for many years.

Family and friends will be received at the Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Ave. in Stamford on Thursday, November 12 from 4 to 7pm with a Panahida service at 6:30 pm to be officiated by Father Vladimir Horoszczak. A funeral service will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday, November 13 at St. Mary‘s Holy Assumption Russian Orthodox Church, 141 Den Rd., Stamford. Interment will follow at the Fairfield Memorial Park, 230 Oaklawn Ave., Stamford.

The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at Greenwich Hospital for their compassionate and loving care. A special thank you to Dr. Antonios Katsigiannis and his staff for all their kindness and caring over the years.
