In Memoriam: Klebert Laurent

The long-time Stamford resident passed away Nov. 26 at the age of 89.

Klebert Laurent, 89, a retired tourist guide and laborer and longtime resident of Stamford, passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2015 at Stamford Hospital.

Mr. Laurent was one of the first Haitian families to immigrate to Stamford in 1967. Mr. Laurent adopted the name “Lorent” upon arriving to the United States. Mr. Laurent assisted and supported many Haitians to immigrate to the United States. Mr. Laurent’s proudest achievement was to give his children and family the opportunity to prosper in the United States.

Mr. Laurent was born on May 6, 1926 in Fond-des-Blancs, Haiti. He was the late son of Mr. Jeanty and Mrs. Damerose Laurent. He was the last surviving child of Mr. Jeanty and Mrs. Laurent. Klebert had two sisters Damelise Dore and Mezelaine Jerome and two brothers Excellent Jeanty and Lebien Jerome.

Mr. Laurent is predeceased by his former loving wife Marie Edith Missoule Lorent, who passed away on March 5, 2004.

Mr. Laurent is survived by five daughters: Benita Joseph and Marie-Chantal Laurent of Stamford, CT; Marguerite Laurent of Georgia; Clevinette Lorent of Malden, MA and Patricia Laurent of Shelton, CT. Mr. Laurent is also survived by two sons Patrick Lorent of Shelton, CT and David S. Laurent of Stamford, CT. Mr. Laurent has five grandsons, one adopted grandson, a granddaughter, many nieces and nephews and other loved ones.

Calling hours will be from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Thursday, Dec. 3, at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home at 2900 Summer St., Stamford.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, Dec. 4 at St. John’s Catholic Church at 279 Atlantic St., Stamford.
The burial will follow immediately after the services at Lakeview Cemetery, 352 Main St., New Canaan.

A reception for family and friends will be held immediately after the burial at the Haitian American Community Center at 93 Hope Street, Stamford.
