In Memoriam: Robert 'Mel' Melsopp

The Stamford resident passed away Jan. 18 at the age of 67.

Robert Melsopp of Stamford, passed away on January 18, 2016
after a brief illness.

Born on May 7, 1948 to John and Helen Melsopp. Besides his parents
Bob was predeceased by his sister Joan and her husband Phil Dube and
in-laws Betty and Tony Dorrico.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years Jane; his son
Sean and his daughter in law Rosaline of Winston Salem, NC, and several
nephews, nieces and cousins.

Bob was a graduate of St. Leo’s College in Florida. Known to his friends as Mel or Zopper. Bob was a Letter Carrier for the Stamford Post Office for 33 years where he also served as Union President for 25 years. That local now bears his name “The Robert Melsopp Branch 60 National Association of Letter Carriers.” For those who were his friend, you were a friend forever.

Mel was known for his wit and his smile. His handshake was always his
bond.Mel had many lifetime friends.

Mel was a New York Giant fan and season ticket holder for many
years. He was also a Yankee fan and a music lover especially of the
Blues. He always enjoyed any discussion over sports and music.

He enjoyed his trips to Florida and to North Carolina to visit Sean and Rosaline’s home.

Calling hours will be 4-8 PM on Thursday, January 21 at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home at 2900 Summer St. in Stamford.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 22, at Fairfield Memorial Park, 230 Oaklawn Ave., Stamford.
