In Memoriam: Sister Giacinta Scaramuzzo
Sister served in Stamford schools and passed away Dec. 4 at the age of 93.

Sister Giacinta Scaramuzzo, POSC (nee Maria Assunta) entered eternal life on December 4, 2015.
Born on July 29, 1922 in Acri, (Cosenza) Italy, Sister Giacinta was a life-ong member of the Pontifical Institute - the Little Workers of the Sacred Hearts, faithfully serving God and her congregation for more than 73 years.

Sister Giacinta made her first profession in 1943 in Italy during World War II and took her final vows in 1946. Her initial congregational assignments were in Bisignano, Cosenza and in Sicily at Messina Hospital.
Sister Giacinta was one of nine courageous Sisters who came to the U.S. in October 1948 to start a new apostolic mission in America. Upon her arrival, she was assigned to Saint Basil’s Preparatory School as well as the Chancery of the Bishop of the Ukrainian Diocese of Stamford. Sister Giacinta helped to establish Villa Divino Amore Convent and Nursery School in Stamford, having served as convent superior for several years. She will be remembered for the gentle and nurturing love she gave to the generations of young children entrusted to her care.

Sister Giacinta holds the distinction of being baptized by Monsignor Francesco Maria Greco, the Founder of the Little Workers of the Sacred Hearts. Blessed Francesco has recently been beatified by Pope Francis.
In addition to the Sisters of her religious community, Sister Giacinta is survived by three brothers,Giuseppe (Acri, Cosenza Italy), Pietro and Angelo Scaramuzzo (Rhode Island); and four sisters Assunta Cannata (Stamford), Annunciata Curcio, Antonetta Pancaro and Sister Maurizia Scaramuzzo, POSC (all of Acri, Cosenza Italy); as well as 19 nieces and nephews.
Sister Giacinta is predeceased by her parents Michele and Teresa (Arena) Scaramuzzo and two sisters Rosina Barcetta and Elena Caruso.
Family and friends may call at Saint Maurice Church, 358 Glenbrook Rd., Stamford, on Saturday, December 12 from 10 to 11 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will commence at 11 AM. Entombment will follow at Saint John Roman Catholic Cemetery, Darien.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Little Workers of the Sacred Hearts, c/o 635 Glenbrook Rd., Stamford, CT 06906-1409.
