STAMFORD, CT — Barnes & Noble on Wednesday announced it will open its second Stamford location at 9 a.m. on May 14.

The new store is located within the High Ridge Shopping Center at 1145 High Ridge Road inside the space formerly occupied by DSW. The other Barnes & Noble location at the Stamford Town Center will remain in operation.

"For 18 years our Town Center bookstore has been a cherished third space for the Stamford community," said Barnes & Noble CEO James Daunt in a prepared statement. "We are very pleased to be adding a second Barnes & Noble to our Stamford fleet here on the north side of the city, with easy access off the Merritt Parkway. Our High Ridge booksellers, many of whom have years of experience in Town Center, are eager to welcome readers into this beautiful new Barnes & Noble."

"We are excited to bring another Barnes & Noble to this great community," said Store Manager Raymond Liam Fitzgerald, a Barnes & Noble bookseller of 17 years. "We’re so thankful for the support and enthusiasm of our customers and can’t wait to welcome them into their brand-new Stamford Barnes & Noble."

Barnes & Noble has experienced a recent period of steady growth after more than 15 years of declining store numbers. The company has handed over control of each bookstore to local booksellers.

In 2024, Barnes & Noble opened more new bookstores in a single year than it had in the whole decade from 2009 to 2019, the company said, noting it expects to open over 60 new bookstores in 2025.

The Stamford location is one of three new Barnes & Noble bookstores set to open in May, alongside new stores in Ohio and Washington.

Daunt, who joined Barnes & Noble in 2019, refreshed many of the company's stores across the country during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to The New York Times.

Barnes & Noble currently serves over 600 communities in all 50 states and features a strong online presence through its website.

There are Barnes & Noble locations in Canton, Danbury, Enfield, Farmington, Glastonbury, Manchester, Meriden, Milford, North Haven, Stamford, Waterbury, West Hartford, and Westport.
