Why are you seeking this office?
As Stamford continues to grow, we need financial leadership that matches our potential – leadership that is smart, transparent, and responsible. I’m running for the Board of Finance to build on our success and ensure that Stamford remains one of the very best places to live, work, raise a family and retire.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it:
As the city continues to grow, we must develop in the right way. Maintaining the uniqueness of Stamford's diverse neighborhoods while allowing for progress. We need properly funded projects and a financial plan that benefits all in the future.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
I bring significant financial acumen and global experience to the Board of Finance. I have worked in this industry in every continent (except Antarctica!) and have real world experience on what works and what does not work both in social economic schemes and capital projects. I plan on bringing my wealth of knowledge and will lean on my 20 years of experience to elevate Stamford’s financial planning.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
I'll work to ensure that property taxes fund services that residents can count on such as good schools, safe roads, and strong community programs. As we all know housing is becoming less affordable and I'll champion strategies that strike a balance between progress and affordability, keeping Stamford accessible to all. I will also work to ensure that the Board of Education budget reflects the needs of all our students.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
I have spent nearly 20 years working in corporate finance positions. I am a qualified economist, with a Masters in Ecological Economics, and I spent nearly a decade consulting with banks and energy supermajors to advise them on oil, gas and agricultural projects worldwide. I’ve led complex, multi-million-dollar initiatives which demanded rigorous financial assessments, risk management, and data-driven decision-making. I am comfortable negotiating with diverse stakeholders and finding common ground without losing sight of results. I am also incredibly invested in the future of Stamford and want long term fiscal health for a city that I plan to spend the rest of my life enjoying.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
Be a lifelong learner and invest in yourself.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I am accustomed to hard work and determination; I funded both my degrees and built a career in a male dominated industry. Having spent nearly 20 years working in finance and for big oil, I am keen to give back to my community. We have something special in Stamford, and maintaining and funding it for generations to come is my priority.
