Pedestrian Struck By Vehicle, Seriously Injured In Hit-And-Run: Stamford Police
The pedestrian suffered "very serious, possibly life-threatening" injuries, police said. The driver of the vehicle was later arrested.

STAMFORD, CT — A 73-year-old Stamford resident was seriously injured after he was struck by a vehicle early Sunday morning, according to police, who said the driver of the vehicle was arrested after initially leaving the scene.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:39 a.m. in the area of the 1200-block of Washington Boulevard.
Police say a 2021 Chevy Express van operated by a 24-year-old Stamford resident was traveling southbound on Washington Boulevard when it struck a pedestrian who was trying to cross the road from east to west.

The pedestrian, who was not in a crosswalk at the time, suffered "very serious, possibly life-threatening" injuries, and he was taken to Stamford Hospital for treatment, police said.
The van did not stop after the collision and fled the scene, police said, noting the van was found on traffic cameras and a broadcast was sent to all officers.

A short time later, officers located the van in a parking lot not far from the scene. The owner of the van "admitted that he was driving the vehicle and struck something, but did not give any further details," police said.
The driver was arrested and charged with evading responsibility, and is currently being held on bond. An investigation remains open to determine if more charges are necessary, police said.
