Snow Emergency Declared in Stamford

Here the details of where residents won't be able to park cars; where warming centers are open and what has been cancelled this weekend.

With the first major snowstorm of the season expected to affect Stamford beginning Saturday morning, with the potential for heavy snow, strong wind, and coastal flooding, a snow emergency has been declared by Mayor David Martin.

The Snow Emergency will begin at 12 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 23.

The three City parking garages (Bell, Bedford, Summer) will be free after 6 p.m. Friday for residents to get their cars off of city streets.

City officials request that residents clear snow around fire hydrants on their street in the event that fire crews need to respond to the area.

The Offices of Public Safety and Operations have been tracking the storm and convened a meeting in the Emergency Operations Center Friday morning to discuss the impact of the winter storm, preparedness and the City’s response. The Offices of Public Safety, Health & Welfare and Operations are prepared to respond to this event.

Snow Emergency

During the Snow Emergency, Snow Emergency Routes are to be kept clear of cars. A full list of streets is below. All City garages will be open and free to residents for the duration of the Snow Emergency.

Cars remaining on Snow Emergency Routes will be ticketed and towed beginning at 12:00 a.m. January 23, 2016. Residents can check online for a list of affected roads at http://www.stamfordct.gov/road-maintenance/pages/snow-emergency-routes.

Due to the volume of snow expected, the City’s Operations Department is requesting all residents to keep all roads clear of cars to allow snow plows to fully plow streets. Cars should be moved into driveways or parked at city garages.

The alternate side parking will take effect regardless of whether a snow emergency has been declared. The purpose of these rules is to facilitate snow removal by providing adequate maneuvering space for snow removal equipment on narrow roadways.

When in effect, parking will be allowed on the even house/building number side of the street and restricted on the odd house/building number side on even numbered calendar dates from 8am until 8am the following day. On odd numbered calendar days, parking will only be allowed on the odd house/building number side of the street and restricted on the even house/building number side of the street from 8am until 8am the following day.
