Stamford Boston Marathon Runner Eileen Garvey OK
"Police began yelling for everyone to run away, run in the opposite direction of the finish line."

A series of explosions rocked the Boston Marathon Monday, killing at least two and sending dozens more to the hospital.
According to Mary Garvey, mother of Stamford resident and Boston Marathon runner Eileen Garvey, Eileen has been in touch with the family and is reportedly okay.
"She made it past the finish line before the explosion," said Mary Garvey. "She was in the vicinity when the explosions happened. She was waiting to meet friends and was on the phone with some of them talking about meeting up when she heard the explosion."

Garvey said her daughter initially thought it was some sort of celebration as she'd finished the race about 25 minutes prior, but then the second blast went off.
"She thought it was a celebration, then she heard the second [blast,]" Garvey said. "She said police began yelling for everyone to run away, run in the opposite direction of the finish line from where they were. She said everyone was screaming and running. She was already walking in that direction so she took off. She got out of there in time."

Garvey said her daughter was picked up by friends from Quincy, Mass., and would be staying there.
