Stamford FC Girls Soccer Team Are Chelsea Piers Winter League Champs

STAMFORD, CT — The Stamford FC Girls team fought back to defeat Chelsea Piers 4-1 in the U10 League Championship Match at the 2023 Chelsea Piers Winter League.

Stamford FC Head coach Brian Coronado led the team for the indoor winter season, which ran from December through the final on Mar. 25. Stamford finished the regular season in first place with 6 wins, 1 loss, and 2 draws. The team outscored its opponents 34-17. No team allowed fewer goals, and Stamford Girls took their place in the playoffs among the top teams of Chelsea Piers Soccer Club, FC Westchester, and Rye Youth Soccer Association.

Stamford fell behind Rye 1-0 early in the semi-final game, but two late first-half goals gave Stamford momentum. A final goal late in the game sealed a trip to the finals. In the final match, the first half saw Chelsea Piers in the lead 1-0, but in the second half, a goal from beyond midfield turned the tide with the team scoring three more late goals to take the title.
