A Stamford grocery store was robbed at gunpoint late Wednesday morning, police said later that afternoon.
According to Sgt. Paul Guzda, the West Main Grocery at 495 West Main Street was robbed by two Hispanic males, one of whom was brandishing a handgun, at approximately 11:52 a.m.
"They held the store owner at gunpoint and ultimately took cash out of the cash register," Guzda said, and described the males as being in their early thirties, one wearing a green jacket, the other a blue pullover.
He said two customers who were in the store at the time of the robbery were not injured in the altercation.
The suspects fled the scene in a dark colored minivan with New York plates. A vehicle stopped in Darien late Wednesday proved unconnected to the incident.
Guzda did not reveal an amount take from the store and said police are working to obtain video surveillance footage of the incident.
