Stamford Health Hosts First 'Bring Your Child to Work Day' Since 2010

The day featured a series of educational and interactive activities aimed at introducing participants to careers in health care.

STAMFORD, CT — Stamford Health welcomed 30 children of employees on Thursday for its first Bring Your Child to Work Day event since 2010, offering a series of educational and interactive activities aimed at introducing participants to careers in health care.

The day began with a guided tour of Stamford Health’s main campus, followed by meetings with physicians, nurses, hospital leadership, and Harrison, the hospital’s resident therapy dog. Children learned about the range of roles that contribute to the organization’s mission of being a trusted health care provider for the communities it serves.

"Bring Your Child to Work Day is an opportunity for our employees to share their professional lives with their children,” said Kathleen Silard, Stamford Health’s president and CEO, in a news release. “We believe that allowing children to see the dynamic and compassionate work their parents do at Stamford Health can spark a lifelong interest in making a difference in people's lives."

The day included visits to Stamford Health’s Simulation Lab, Wound Center, and Laboratory, along with demonstrations focusing on infection prevention, fitness and nutrition, and pulmonary care. Children had the opportunity to practice basic medical procedures such as CPR, putting on and removing personal protective equipment (PPE), and learning about teamwork in patient care settings.

Participants received a backpack and notebook to document their experiences and wore ID badges identifying them as “Future Health Care Workers.” Parents joined their children for lunch, giving them a chance to share what they had learned during the day.

“My favorite part of the day was seeing how the team came together to put this great event together for us,” said Alejandra, one of the student participants. “Now I know if I eventually want to work at Stamford Health, I’d be working with a big team that supports each other.”

“I had a lot of fun during the day,” added Mackenzie, another participant. “It was very eye-opening to see what goes on in the medical field behind the scenes.”

Stamford Health, certified as a Great Place to Work since 2021, offers a range of family-supportive benefits, including expanded parental leave, a scholarship program for employees’ children, a generous paid time off policy, and a childcare partnership with the Children’s Learning Center.

Officials said the Bring Your Child to Work Day event reflects the organization’s commitment to supporting employees and their families, while also inspiring future generations to consider careers in health care.
