STAMFORD, CT — Stamford Health last week unveiled its newly renovated Hackett Family Maternity Unit, which was funded in large part by a generous donation from the Hackett family as part of the health system’s multi-year fundraising campaign for women and babies.

Stamford Health held a grand opening event for the new unit on Feb. 28 and a full reopening for patients is scheduled for the week of March 11.

"We’re so grateful for the Hackett family, including Stamford Health board member, Pat Hackett, for their generous donation," said Stamford Health President & CEO Kathleen Silard in a news release. "We are proud to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a High Performing Hospital for Maternity Care. These renovations help us continue providing expert, compassionate care for parents and babies in our community."

After almost a year of construction, The Hackett Family Maternity Unit features a full nursery, new nursing stations and numerous cosmetic improvements such as new wall coverings, lighting, flooring, artwork and more. Each room also includes enhanced accommodations for partners to stay comfortably overnight.

The nursery ensures that new parents will have the support they need to rest and recover from childbirth. The unit includes 32 private rooms with fully renovated en-suite bathrooms.

"This new unit bolsters Stamford Health’s already exceptional care for women and babies," said Dr. Siobhan Dolan, chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Stamford Health, who oversees pregnancy and newborn services including the Hackett Family Maternity Unit, the Women’s Specialty Center and the Labor & Delivery Unit. "Thanks to the Hackett Family, we are thrilled to open this gorgeous Maternity Unit where we can provide the superior patient- and family-centered care that has long been our standard."

Janienne and Patrick Hackett said they welcomed their children into the world at Stamford Health.

"Their staff took exceptional care of us as a young family and ever since. We are longtime patrons of Stamford Health and we believe strongly in the mission it serves to the community. We are proud to support the organization and all the great work it provides," they added in a news release.

Stamford Health’s fundraising campaign for women and babies also paved the way for the modernized NICU, which opened in June 2023 thanks to a $5 million philanthropic commitment from the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation.

Stamford Health continues to work to modernize the Whittingham Pavilion at Stamford Hospital, which houses all mother and baby services. The Labor & Delivery unit is currently undergoing renovation.
