Stamford Man Appeals Conviction of Attempted Murder of Wife

The case was heard Monday by the state Appellate Court.

The lawyer for a Stamford man argued before the state Appellate Court Monday that his client shouldn’t have to serve a 15-year jail sentence for planning his estranged wife’s murder.

Daniel Buzzeo was convicted in 2013 of attempted murder following his arrest two years earlier on charges he tried to hire a hit man to murder his wife. He was arrested in June 2011 on a criminal attempt at murder charge after he met at an I-95 rest stop in Darien with an undercover police officer posing as a hit man.

During that meeting, Buzzeo was recorded discussing details of the murder of his wife, including how she would be killed and how much he would pay the man. The couple was in the process of divorce.

Defense attorney Philip Russell on Monday argued that his client’s sentence should be set aside because Buzzeo did not take the legally required step to commit the crime, rather he made preparations.
