Stamford Man Charged in Hotel Assault, Robbery
The man allegedly beat up a victim who was trying to give his girlfriend a ride.

A Stamford man was charged Monday morning in the assault and robbery of a hotel guest at the city's America's Best Value Inn earlier in April.
Officers were dispatched on April 10 to the hotel at 1209 East Main Street for reports of a party that was bleeding. Police who met with the victim said the man reported having been assaulted by a woman's boyfriend.
According to police, the 30-year-old victim said he'd been standing outside the room he'd been renting for a few weeks earlier in the morning, smoking a cigarette, when a woman approached him and told him her boyfriend had just assaulted her and she needed a ride.
The man told police he'd offered her a ride and they entered his hotel room prior to leaving. While there, the man told police someone began banging on his door.
Police said he opened the door to find Michael Hughes Genovese, 38, of Lafayette Street, whom the victim allegedly knew as Mike and had reportedly purchased drugs from the previous evening.
Genovese allegedly forced his way into the room at that point, pushing the victim into a dresser, which caused the victim to fall over and have a lamp drop onto his head. Police said the man reported Genovese then began striking him.
Police said the victim refused medical treatment at the scene, so a photo lineup was conducted and the victim positively identified Genovese as the man who assaulted him.
Genovese also allegedly stole the victim's Apple TV and a disk drive after the assault.
Genovese was charged with second-degree failure to appear, second-degree robbery and home invasion.
