Stamford Man Charged with Rape of Neighbor

Stamford Police say the burglary and assault occurred Sunday night.

A Stamford man was arrested on sexual assault and burglary charges following an incident involving a neighbor, according to Stamford Police.

It was about 11:10 p.m. Sunday when the 25-year-old victim called Stamford Police to report she been assaulted in her basement apartment on Hope Street, according to police.

The victim told police that a Hispanic man forced his way into her apartment and sexually assaulted her. “The victim lives in the basement apartment of the residence and she believes that the suspect lives in the first floor apartment of the residence,” police said in a statement.

The officers went to the first floor apartment and detained a man identified as Alex Manriquez, 37. “The victim was then able to identify Manriquez as the male who forced his way into the apartment and sexually assaulted her. He was detained and the SPD Detective and ID Bureau were called to take statements and process the scene,” police said.

Manriquez was taken to police headquarters and charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree sexual assault and first-degree unlawful restraint. Manriquez was on a $100,000 bond and was to be arraigned in court on Monday.

The victim was treated at Stamford Hospital.

Police added, “This case is still active and the investigation is ongoing.”
