Stamford Police Officer Arrested, Charged In Domestic Violence Incident: PD

The officer is currently on administrative leave pending an administrative inquiry, according to the Stamford Police Department.

STAMFORD, CT — The Stamford Police Department on Thursday announced the arrest of one of its own in connection with a domestic violence incident.

Gregory Zach, 42, a veteran police officer with the SPD, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with second-degree strangulation, two counts of second-degree threatening, four counts of third-degree assault, and three counts of disorderly conduct, an announcement from Stamford Police Chief Timothy Shaw said.

Further details on the incident were not immediately available Thursday morning.

"The Stamford Police Department takes allegations of domestic violence very seriously and we will continue to work with and support the victim in this matter," Shaw said.

Zach, a Monroe resident who joined the SPD in July 2005, is currently on administrative leave pending an administrative inquiry, according to Shaw. The officer was able to post 7 percent of a $10,000 bond; he is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Thursday.

In April 2014, the city of Stamford agreed to pay a Norwalk woman $230,000 to settle a case of police brutality involving Zach, according to the law firm of Koskoff Koskoff & Bieder.
