Stamford School Board Takes Next Steps In Superintendent Search

Stamford Public Schools issued an update on the superintendent search process.

STAMFORD, CT — The Stamford Board of Education has formed an ad hoc committee to identify an executive search firm to assist in recruiting the district’s next superintendent.

The committee is part of a broader effort to ensure transparency and community engagement in the search process, the school district said in an announcement.

BOE Vice President Versha Munshi-South will chair the committee, joined by fellow board memebrs Julienne Foy, chair of the Teaching & Learning Committee, and Dr. Rebecca Hamman.

Community members on the committee include former BOE President Jennienne Burke, former member Joshua Essess, Duane E. Hill of TSG Capital Group LLC, retired educator Eileen Swerdlick, and Edith Targonski, editor-in-chief of Latin Colors Magazine. BOE President Michael Hyman will serve as an ex-officio member.

The committee will issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) in mid- to late September, inviting qualified firms to manage the search process. Submissions will be reviewed, and finalists interviewed before the full board votes on a firm, expected no later than the November 2025 regular meeting.

"Our community deserves an inclusive, transparent, and rigorous process to identify the next leader of our school district," Munshi-South said in an announcement. "Securing the right search firm is a crucial first step to ensuring that the voices of students, families, educators, and community members are front and center."

The selected firm will facilitate community engagement, develop a leadership profile, advertise the position, recruit candidates, manage communications, and coordinate interviews with the board and stakeholders.

"The Board is committed to ensuring an open, collaborative, and community-driven Superintendent search," Hyman added. "We look forward to working together with families, students, staff, and Stamford residents during this important transition."

The committee will provide an update on the RFP process at the BOE’s Sept. 30.

Superintendent Dr. Tamu Lucero previously announced she will not seek a contract extension. She has accepted an offer to serve as the director and head of school at a private, PreK-12 international school in Africa effective July 1, 2026.
