STAMFORD, CT — Completion of the new parking garage at the Stamford Transportation Center has been delayed by a little over a month, according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

CTDOT spokesperson Shannon Burnham said the department anticipates a completion date sometime in early November. The project was originally slated for completion in late summer.

"Some of our projects have been delayed due to supply chain issues or a delay in materials being delivered. That's something we've seen over the past few years in the transportation and construction industry," Burnham said.

About two weeks ago, crews erected a 320-foot steel truss for the pedestrian bridge that connects the new parking garage to the station. Walls will be enclosed with glass, and concrete flooring and ceiling will be installed over the next few weeks, Burnham said.

On May 31, a section of the ceiling partially collapsed at the transportation center.

An investigation determined that several of the pin-drive concrete anchors connecting the suspending ceiling framing to the concrete floor above had pulled out, resulting in the failure, CTDOT said.

CTDOT immediately removed similar sections of ceiling throughout the transportation center out of an abundance of caution. The department is currently designing permanent ceilings and permanent lighting fixtures for those ceiling sections, Burnham said.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held when the project is finished.
