Stamford's SoundWaters Expands Science Education To Adults

SoundWaters is launching a continuing education course in partnership with Stamford Public Schools.

STAMFORD, CT — SoundWaters, a nonprofit dedicated to environmental education, is expanding its programming to adults this fall with a continuing education course in partnership with Stamford Public Schools.

The course, titled "The Heart of Long Island Sound: Exploring its Ecosystem with SoundWaters," will take place at the Cohen SoundWaters Harbor Center, 200 Southfield Ave.

Sessions will be held on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., beginning Oct. 1.

Participants will study the Sound’s ecosystem firsthand, examining plankton under microscopes, capturing marine animals with nets and waders, and performing comparative dissections of oysters and squid to learn about evolutionary biology.

The program will also highlight lesser-known marine species, offering an in-depth look at local biodiversity.

"For more than 30 years, SoundWaters has helped young people discover the magic of Long Island Sound through exploration and joyful learning, and we’re thrilled to bring that same type of experience to adults," said SoundWaters President Leigh Shemitz in an announcement.

The class costs $134, with an additional $10 fee for non-residents. Space is limited.
