State Rep. Patricia Billie Miller Named CT House Deputy Speaker

Her appointment to the position was announced late Wednesday.

State Representative Patricia Billie Miller (D-Stamford) was named Deputy Speaker of the Connecticut House of Representatives it was announced Monday. She was appointed by Speaker of the House Rep. Brendan Sherkey (D-Hamden).

Miller is a Stamford native. She was first elected to the General Assembly in 2008 to represent Stamford’s 145th Assembly District and is now serving her third term in the House.

"It is an honor and a privilege to be part of the Speaker's team," said Miller. "I am pleased to have yet another opportunity to serve the people of Stamford and give strength to their voice. I look forward to working with leadership to address the challenges ahead."

 Miller will continue to serve as a member of the legislature’s Appropriations Committee, Education Committee and Government Administration & Elections Committee in addition to her new duties.

"Representative Billie Miller has quickly distinguished herself as a leader in our caucus and someone who is looked up to by her fellow legislators," said Sharkey. "Her work on education is particularly noteworthy and reflects Pat’s desire and ability to take on major issues facing our state."

Earlier this year, Rep. Billie Miller was named Legislator of the Year by the Connecticut Community Development Association (CCDA) for her work on community development projects that positively impacted Connecticut communities. In addition to her work on education, Miller has been a strong proponent of campaign finance reform and strengthening domestic violence laws.

Prior to her election to the legislature, Billie Miller worked at the Stamford Housing Authority for over 25 years and served on the Stamford Board of Representatives,
