Survey Launched On Future Of Former Fairway Market Site In Stamford
Mayor Simmons said one of the top requests the city continues to get is the return of a grocery store in the South End and Downtown area.

STAMFORD, CT — Mayor Caroline Simmons said this week the city of Stamford is partnering with real estate investment and development company, V20 Group, "to explore opportunities for additional convenience retail in the South End and Downtown."
Simmons said in a Facebook post one of the top requests the city continues to hear from residents is the return of a grocery store near 699 Canal St., the former site of Fairway Market.
To that end, a survey was launched to gather community input and support for a new grocery store.

Fairway Market at 699 Canal St. closed in August 2020, and the site has remained vacant, but it's starting to come back to life.
According to V20 Group, Club Studio Fitness, a fitness studio that combines boutique classes with high-end amenities and a full gym experience, will open at the property in 2026. Club Studio Fitness is a premium LA Fitness subsidiary.
"While Club Studios will be occupying almost 40,000 SF, we still have plenty of ground floor space left for great neighborhood conveniences," an introduction says before the survey.
V20 Group, based in Darien, acquired 699 Canal St. in July 2024.
"Located in the heart of the South End’s Harbor Point district, the property is surrounded by a growing residential population and benefits from strong pedestrian traffic and demand for retail amenities," V20 Group says on its website.
"The 84,000-square-foot site, formerly occupied by Fairway Market, includes a large parking lot with 385 spaces and offers significant potential for revitalization," V20 Group added. "V20 plans to undertake extensive renovations to modernize and enhance the facility, preserving its retail character while elevating its appeal for future tenant."
