SUV Strikes Parking Garage, Driver Killed: Stamford Police
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene after the vehicle "struck a support column for the parking garage," police said.

STAMFORD, CT — A 47-year-old man died after his vehicle struck a support column for a parking garage late Friday, police said.
The Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred at 11:45 p.m. on Friday at 1266 East Main St., police said.
"A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder was traveling NB on Houston Terrace," police said in a news release. "The vehicle drove across all lanes of traffic on East Main St, at a very high rate of speed. The Nissan continued until it entered the property of 1266 East Main St and struck a support column for the parking garage."

The vehicle suffered extremely heavy damage, and the driver and sole occupant, a 47-year-old Hispanic man, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
"At this time, we are still attempting to find next of kin for the operator, pending notification of family, the identity of the driver is being withheld," police said.
