UConn Proposes Tuition Increases for Next 4 Years

The resident student tuition could rise by 23 percent; increases would be about half that for students from out-of-state.

Tuition at the University of Connecticut will rise by about 23 percent for resident students if a proposed four-year schedule of increases is approved by the school’s Board of Trustees later this month.

On Tuesday afternoon UConn chief financial officer Scott Jordan unveiled his proposed schedule of tuition increases for resident students beginning with a 6.6 percent increase in 2016, and averaging about 7 percent for each of the next three years, according to The Courant.

In-state tuition would grow by $3,275 to $13,799 by the 2019-20 academic year. Current tuition is $10,524 for resident students.

Next fall, out-of-state students would pay an increase of $950 to $33,016, with tuition rising about 3 percent a year to $36,466 by 2019.

A projected budget shortfall of more than $40 million is the reason for the proposed increases the trustees will vote on at a Dec. 16 meeting, according to The Courant story that can be found here.
