Evening highlights will include the keyboard artistry of special guest Dr. Anthony Newman – widely celebrated as America’s leading organist and a virtuoso who has commanded Lincoln Center’s stage in over 60 performances; and the introduction of violinist Zoe Dweck, the Fox Lane High School (Bedford, NY) senior who is a prize winner in Westfair’s inaugural Scholarship Competition recognizing exceptionally gifted, female high school musicians from the region. The program will also feature Randall Stroppe’s Lux Aeterna; Randall Thompson’s Alleluia and Something Like A Star; Magnificat by D. Buxtehude; and sacred works by Handel and others.
“The Greenwich concert - our first in three years – is a terrific way to introduce Westfair to new audiences,” comments Lettitia Long, President of Westfair’s Board of Directors, noting the group had staged South Salem and Bedford, NY performances in recent years. Long reports that the group is energized after a year of rebuilding and growth that saw the successful launch of the Judith Hahnssen-Schwab Founder’s Scholarship Competition, an expanded performance schedule, and a renewed commitment to supporting community organizations that assist women whose voices have been muted. The opportunity to showcase talented, young musicians from our region is adding an exciting dimension to Westfair’s programming, notes Long.

“We are so fortunate to be guided by the artistic vision of Mary Jane Newman,” says Westfair Board Member Rebecca Ayars, of the highly accomplished conductor, keyboardist and recording artist who has served as Westfair’s Musical Director since 2009. “She has an amazing ability to share how great music communicates with us across the centuries, offering insight into the human spirit and illuminating what we trust in and what we treasure,” comments Ayars. Ms. Newman, a Stamford resident, made her New York debut in 1986 in Lincoln Center’s “Great Performers” series at Alice Tully Hall.
Founded in 1987, the Westfair Singers bring together Westchester and Fairfield County women to sing with a vision of creating performances that entertain, inspire and expand awareness of the impact of women’s voices in both musical culture and the community at large.
