What Road in Stamford Needs a Speed Bump?

We asked Patch readers on Facebook what streets they thought needed a speed bump. Find out what your neighbors told us.

STAMFORD, CT - Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.

While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including Stamford. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

  • "Every road in Stamford has built-in speed bumps in the form of potholes, sinking manhole covers, and other maddening menaces to our tires and our alignments. Maybe the powers that be should stop painting bicycles on the roads and fix the roads instead. They always remember to raise our property taxes."
  • "Grandview Avenue! School buses use it as a bypass to North St. It's a quiet residential street and we don't need buses or any other fast vehicles ripping up or down the street."
  • "None. There's too many as it is. The neighborhood I grew up in is now filled with them. Why don't the police start cracking down on speeders and people who blow through red lights instead?"
  • "Soundview Ave."
