Antique Marine Engine Expo Among Summer Events At Mystic Seaport Museum

The 34th Annual Antique Marine Engine Expo is next month, along with a dog water rescue demonstration, family field day, and more.

MYSTIC, CT — Mystic Seaport Museum will host the 34th Annual Antique Marine Engine Expo from Aug. 16 to 17, featuring more than 300 displays of vintage marine engines and steam models, according to a statement from the museum.

The event will include engines powered by electricity, gasoline, diesel, and steam, many of which were built before 1973. Exhibitors from across the country will demonstrate the engines in action, with steam engines operating in real time, outboard motors running in barrels, and intricate models working on benches and in the museum’s model pool.

The Expo will take place in the Henry B. du Pont Preservation Shipyard. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. The event is included with museum admission.

Also on Aug. 16, a talk on the historic ship Susan Constant will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., with a viewing of the vessel scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m.

  • Newfoundland dog water rescue demonstrations on Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Family Field Day on Aug. 30, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring traditional outdoor games. The rain date is Aug. 31.

All events are included with general admission and free for museum members.
