Connecticut Restaurant A Top 'Hidden Gem' In U.S., New List Says

MYSTIC, CT — A Connecticut restaurant has been named among the country's 25 top "hidden gems." The Traveler's Choice Awards Best of the Best is from Tripadvisor and "celebrates the highest level of excellence in travel."

The honor went to restaurants that received a "high volume of above-and-beyond reviews and opinions" from diners over a 12-month period.

Out of 8 million listings, fewer than 1 percent achieve this milestone.

"You have to get a bit off the beaten path to find these spots, but they certainly earn their winner status in both taste and local charm," Tripadvisor wrote.

In Connecticut, Trattoria Amalfi in Mystic is considered a hidden gem, ranking No. 9 on the list.

"Trattoria Amalfi puts you in a comfortable spot with its coastal-inspired Italian cooking and a welcoming atmosphere," according to Tripadvisor. "The handmade pastas and fresh local seafood are standouts—ask about daily specials and don’t skip dessert. Service is relaxed but on point, and the patio’s a great call if you want to hang out with friends or family over drinks."

The restaurant has an impressive 4.9-star rating out of 275 reviews.

Trattoria Amalfi was opened in 2023 by the Shoreline Hospitality Group. The restaurant has over 200 seats along with a bar, private dining area, and two outdoor patios.
