Daily Five: Buzzi Billboard Bashed By Blizzard

Plus, temps are going up, eggs are being hidden and it's the last day to enter the PEEPS contest.

1. It's getting warmer, says the National Weather Service.

  • Today: Increasing clouds, with a high near 47. West wind 6 to 14 mph.
  • Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. Northwest wind around 11 mph.

2. The iconic green Buzzi Memorials sign on the side of Route 1 has stood for more than 70 years. It survived hurricanes named Carol, Bob, Irene and Sandy, as well as nor'easters, blizzards, thunder and lightning and even the occasional wayward vehicle. After all that time and all that stamina, the February blizzard proved to be too much. Buzzi owner Harold Buzzi told Patch that Hurricane Sandy damaged the trees that surround the sign, and he thinks because of that, the winds that came with the February blizzard knocked the signboards down. Buzzi said he is working with his insurance company and is not sure when he can make repairs. "I know it's a landmark," he said. "I know people look for it. I do too."
