Daily Five: First Day Of Spring, SHS Lacrosse Fundraiser

1. Today is the first day of spring! Yes! No, really. I swear. Not making it up. At 7:02 a.m., the sun will cross directly over the Earth's equator during a moment known as the vernal equinox when both day and night are about equal — also the official start of the new season. And it’s only three months until the first day of summer!

2. The non-springlike forecast from our friends at the National Weather Service:

• Today: Sunny, with a high near 38. West wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph.
• Tonight Partly cloudy, with a low around 25. West wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

3. Need lunch or dinner today? Want to help out a great group of girls while you eat? The Stonington High School girls lacrosse team is holding a fundraiser at the Dog Watch Cafe tonight.  Tell your server  you are there to support the lacrosse team and the girls get 15% of the bill.

4. April vacation is right around the corner! If you need something for the kids to do, the Stonington Como has you covered. From April 15-19, the COMO will be providing care from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Activities include daily gymnasium and outdoor games, trips to the town dock playground, culinary creations, and crafts! On Monday, Wednesday and Friday it'll be a breakfast bash featuring Mr. Alex's Signature Funfetti Pancakes. Cost: $45 per day 

The COMO will also be featuring two specialty camps during the week.

Blast Off into Spring, rocketry camp, explores air power rockets, Diet Coke- and Mentos-powered rockets, as well as traditional model rockets. The week will conclude with a trip to the Soccer Fields to launch participants' traditional model rockets!

Skate Board Desk Design participants will hang out and talk with Jeff Blaylam, founder and President of Worship Skateboards. Work with local artists, use spray cans, acrylic paints, stencils and other methods to design your deck. Make sure you bring your original art and design ideas to use on your deck.

5. In the Catching Up Department: The 10^th Annual Cabin Fever Festival and Chowder Cook-Off raised $13,183 for the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center. Save the date for next year, Saturday Feb. 22, 2014!
