Daily Five: Rice Spice Noodles Is Closed, Golf Is Open

Five things to know for Thursday March 21, 2013

1. Nature did not get the memo that Wednesday was the first day of spring, based on today's forecast for SNOW.

  • Today A chance of snow. Cloudy, with a high near 37. North wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.
  • Tonight A chance of snow, mainly before midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 25. Northwest wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

2. A local favorite on the Mystic restaurant scene is gone — Rice Spice Noodles closed around the end of February. According to neighboring business owners, the restaurant had been open sporadically through January and February, and then suddenly was empty. Brown paper is covering the windows. There is no information on their Facebook page other than a March 2 post from someone asking if they had gone out of business. The Thai restaurant opened in 2005 to rave reviews and quickly became a favorite among locals and tourists. On Trip Advisor, it is ranked ninth out of 67 restaurants in reviews. The most recent review there is Feb. 4. On the Stonington-Mystic Patch listing, there are two reviews, both from January. The building is owned by Berstev LLC of Rehoboth, Mass., according to town records. No phone listing could be found for that company.

3. It's cold, it might snow, but who cares? Pequot Golf Club and Elmridge Golf Course are open! Pequot opened Monday (no carts yet) and Elmridge opened March 15. Click here for Pequot's 2013 membership information. Click here for Elmridge's.
