Daily Five: @StonCompliments Brings The Nice To Twitter

Plus, snow in the forecast, this week's meetings, a kids' reading contest and salamanders are on the move.

1. Oh dear. The forecast is calling for you-know-what. Thanks, National Weather Service.

  • Today: Snow, mainly after noon. High near 38. Breezy, with a northeast wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 17 to 22 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
  • Tonight: Snow, mainly before 11pm. Low around 30. North wind 11 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

2. Cyber-bullying is a huge concern among parents these days, and there are websites out there that are specifically created to allow teens to anonymously attack each other. All that makes a new Twitter feed in town that much more welcome. Called STONINGTONCOMPLMENTS, it first appeared on March 12 with this tweet: "I thought stonington needed an anon compliment twitter so here ya guys go :)" Since then it has regularly tweeted out nice things (158 tweets) about Stonington High School students both past and present, and even takes requests via direct messaging. It already has 314 followers! We say thank you to whoever is behind it!

3. The Salamander & Vernal Pool Walk led by Bruce Felman has been rescheduled to Thursday, March 28 at 7 p.m. because of last week's cold temperatures. According to the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center's Facebook page, while salamanders love the damp, they do not find the cold to be motivating. If you have a chance to attend, I highly recommend it. It is a sight to behold.
